PermitX did not start as a software idea. It started with a designer, a builder and a marketer separately losing months to the same queue, and noticing that every comment letter they ever received was about something already drawn on the sheets.
Why it exists
Nobody quotes for the wait.
The line nobody puts on a quote, and usually the one that decides whether the job made money.
You can price materials, labour, consultants and financing. Nobody puts a line on a quote for the six weeks a resubmission adds, because nobody knows in advance whether it will happen.
What made it worth building was realising the failures were repetitive. Not exotic code interpretations, but setbacks, exits, occupant load, barrier free clearances and dimensions that were never shown. The same short list, over and over, across firms and municipalities.
A list that repeats is a list you can check. So we built the thing that reads a drawing set against the code and the bylaw and hands you that list before you file, when a finding still costs an afternoon instead of a season.

Every hour a finished set spends in a queue is an hour nobody in that list gets back. Say goodbye to the delays, the red tape and the guesswork: that is the whole of the ambition, and it is why the product is a reading machine rather than another form to fill in.

Coverage is dated, not promised
Every municipality we have read is listed with what was read. Nothing appears on the coverage page before the bylaw is in the system.
Findings are auditable
Each item cites the article it came from and the sheet it was read off, so a reviewer can check us without taking our word for anything.
How we build it
Four rules we hold ourselves to.
The information was always there
Nearly every finding on a comment letter was visible in the drawings before they were filed. Permitting delay is not an information problem, it is a timing problem, and timing problems are solvable.
A citation or it did not happen
A compliance tool that says something looks wrong without saying which clause is just anxiety. Every finding names the article it comes from, so you can check our work.
Say what you do not cover
We name every municipality whose bylaw we have read in full and we say plainly that everywhere else in Ontario is provincial code only for now. Overstating coverage is how you lose a department’s trust once and permanently.
The city is not the opponent
Reviewers are not the reason permits take time. Incomplete applications are. Building a tool that makes intake cleaner helps both sides of the counter, which is why municipalities are an audience and not a target.

Architectural designer with more than fifteen years in design build. Has filed the applications, sat through the review comments, and shaped what the report needs to say.

Builder and developer with over twenty years on site. Joined because permitting delay is the cost nobody quotes for, and wanted the tool to put builders first.
The platform
PermitX is delivered through Quotograph.
Quotograph builds the platform PermitX runs on: the workspace that already reads, holds and keeps a record of a project's drawings. The compliance review is a layer on top of that, which is why there is no separate PermitX app to sign up for.
